Agate is a microcrystalline, Chalcedony form of translucent Quartz, Silicon Dioxide, SiO2. Varieties of Agate usually exhibits multicolored markings and textures suggestive of natural phenomena such as clouds, moss, dendrites, ferns, fog, roots, feathers, skin (cracked, snake), scenes with trees, striped gradations found in layers of soil, or the concentric rings of a tree trunk. In the past agate was a valuable amulet and talisman, a Guardian Angel stone believed to protect the wearer from all dangers. In the Bible, Agate was in the third row of the breastplate of Aaron. Persian Magi used Agate to divert storms. Varieties of Agate were also used as semi-precious ornaments. Agate was purported to quench thirst, to protect from fevers and the rages of others, and to help broaden and clarify overall perspectives on life. Agate was also used to assimilate new information; to balance inner knowing with love and wisdom; to instill courage; to relieve insomnia by promising only pleasant dreams; and to bring peace and stillness to contemplation, introspection, and meditation.
Agate restores mental clarity and self-confidence through increased
perceptiveness. By grounding you and attuning you to nature and the elementals,
Agate enables you to balance your masculine/feminine polarities and to align you
mind, body, emotions, and spirit.
Agate also gives one the fortitude to cleanse and transmute illusions, delusions, confusions, webs, and implants resulting in a more refined and stabilized divine blueprint for your light matrix. Part of the Trigonal Crystal System, crytocrystalline Agate has a Hardness of 7 or less and a Specific Gravity 2.5 or less. Streaked white with conchoidal uneven fracture Agate comes in nodular, stalactitic, botryoidal, mammilary, smooth rounded pebble, geode, and massive form. Agate is found in Africa, Australia, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, India, Italy, Madagascar, Mexico and North America.
